Make brand consistency your competitive advantage
By Mark Wiseman
Being seen and heard has been the primary focus for brands for many years. New logos, cutting-edge websites, big campaigns, all important.
But I believe the brands that succeed aren’t necessarily the loudest – but the most consistent.

Brand consistency is about more than a logo
Consistency is more than using the right logo or colours. It’s about creating and owning brand experiences that feel unmistakably like your business, at every touchpoint. With so many channels and formats, digital and physical, customers don’t judge brands on one interaction but a series of experiences, from sales presentations and event stands to direct mail campaigns and team uniforms. Knowing this makes the challenge of delivering brand consistency even more important – and harder.
Small inconsistencies create big problems
Growing a brand and business takes time, and a lot changes along the way. Teams grow, product ranges develop and markets expand, and different departments source different suppliers. Marketing manage the creative agency, procurement appoint a printer and HR purchase uniforms, and before long, multiple people are making big decisions that influence the same brand. And while individually the decisions make sense, collectively, they can pull a brand in different directions.
None of these issues will lose a customer overnight, but over time, they will chip away at the confidence they have in your brand. Most customers won’t tell you how they feel about your brand, but it will impact their behaviours and attitudes which can have a significant impact on your overall business performance.
Consistency builds confidence
This is why I believe that brand consistency is a genuine competitive advantage. Where every touchpoint says quality, professionalism, confidence, and every interaction builds familiarity and trust. And I see the clients we work with beginning to think differently about how they manage their brand. Rather than seeing creative, print, merchandise and fulfilment as individual tasks, they recognise that together they are one single customer experience. I’m seeing a real shift from organisations buying individual services to managing one connected brand with one accountable partner.
It makes commercial sense too
Brand consistency is a solid foundation for all successful businesses but also can drive significant cost savings. Clients spend less time managing suppliers, brand guidelines are easier to control, and marketing campaigns are delivered more efficiently, in both time and money. In a world where products can be easily replicated, experience remains one of the few opportunities to differentiate and leave a lasting impression.
Bringing it all together
I’ll be the first to admit that brand consistency isn’t easy. Having recently rebranded three businesses together under the Pollards brand, I’ve seen first-hand just how much time, planning and attention to detail it takes. The experience reinforced something I already believed: consistency doesn’t happen by chance. It takes ownership, joined up thinking and a clear plan.
That’s why we’ve built Pollards around connected brand delivery. By bringing creative, print, merchandise, clothing and fulfilment together, we help clients present one clear, consistent brand wherever it is seen, worn and touched. Because when every part of a brand works together, marketing works harder, teams spend less time managing suppliers and customers gain confidence – and it’s harder for the competition to copy.
